Discovery Lab: Solar Science

In preparation for the summer, this Discovery Lab will focus on the Sun! Along with visible light, we'll explore how the Sun also generates heat and UV light. We'll harvest the power of the sun to create solar updraft towers and solar ovens. Kids will test which sun safety measures protect against UV light and create UV-detecting bracelets.

*In following with COVID-19 restrictions, this event has been cancelled until further notice.

Discovery Lab: Insect Investigations

It's May in Muskoka, where we're known for our bugs, so this Discovery Lab will be all about insect investigations!! We'll learn about insect anatomy, habitats and why they're so important. Live insects will be included (humanely!) in our experiments where possible. We'll look to answer: What do ants like to eat? How are ant hills built? What habitats do crickets prefer? How do pollinators transfer pollen? What does it look like to 'see' out of an insects eye? How do insects survive cold winters?

*In following with COVID-19 restrictions, this event has been cancelled until further notice.

Discovery Lab: Colourful Chemistry

This Discovery Lab will be full of colour changing chemistry fun! Our experiments might look like magic tricks, but we'll discover that colour change is in fact a hallmark of chemical reactions. Kids will test the colour changing capabilities of cabbage, change the colour of pennies, and make colour changing lemonade using butterfly pea flower.

*In following with COVID-19 restrictions, this event has been cancelled until further notice.
